Austria triumphs in thrilling 6-5 shootout victory

David Waschnig and Benedikt Krainer each scored twice to lead Austria to a 6-5 shootout victory over Hungary.

Hungary started strong with Adam Balogh scoring early from a redirected shot, followed by Agostan Schmidt's goal amidst a crowded net front. Austria narrowed the lead when Felix Haibock initiated a goal finished by Paul Sintschnig on a power play.

Mid-second period, Gregor Schwartz extended Hungary's lead, but Krainer responded by scoring twice, including once from a massive gap to the left of the net. Waschnig then scored a shorthanded and a crucial go-ahead goal for Austria.

In the final moments, Hungary's Bendeguz Ven scored during a goalie pull, and Schmidt tied the game with only a second left, redirecting a shot after a faceoff win. The match, unresolved in overtime, was decided by Johannes Neumann's decisive shootout goal for Austria.
